SERMON NOTES
Testimony of Christ’s Deity
John 5:30-40
John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do
not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. “If I bear witness of Myself, My witness
is not true.
v32 There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is
true. You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
v34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. He was
the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. But I have a
greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works
that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
v37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any
time, nor seen His form. But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do
not believe.
v39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which
testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Jesus Sums Up His Testimony vv30-31
The Fathers Testimony vv32
1. John The Baptist vv33-35
Isaiah 40:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the
desert A highway for our God.”
2. The Miracles of Jesus v36
John 10:25b...The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.
John 21:25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I
suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
John 14:11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the
works themselves.
3. The Testimony of the Scriptures vv38-40
Hebrews 10:11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down
at the right hand of God,
Isaiah 53:5-6 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The
chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone
astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the
things concerning Himself.
Salvation isn’t a matter of what you know. It’s a matter of who you
know.
