The Judgement of Unbelief
John 5:41-47
John 5:41 “I do not receive honor from men. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
v44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.
v46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
John 20:31These things are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that believing you might have life in His name.

They Were Unwilling To Believe v40
All responsibility for unbelief falls on the sinner.
2 Peter 3:9b...The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
1 Timothy 2:3-6a For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator

1. They Refuse To Honor Their Messiah v41
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
John 12:43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Philippians 3:8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may
gain Christ.

Matthew 23:2-3 The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.
Do you desire to honor Christ?
Do you love God?
Do you believe Scripture?
Salvation isn’t a matter of what you know. It’s a matter of who you know.
