The Weakness of the Law
Galatians 3:15-25
The Judaizers Argument About Faith and Law
Paul's main point is; The law was never intended to be a way of
salvation.
The Superiority of the Promise vv15-19
Genesis 15:5
Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the
heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and
cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
All Abrahamic blessings, all Davidic blessing, all new covenant
blessings are in Jesus Christ and Him alone.
Why Did God institute the Law?
1. The Law Exposed Our Sin.
Exodus 20 - The 10 Commandments
No other gods. No idols.
No misuse of God's name. Keep the Sabbath.
Honor parents. No murder.
No adultery. No stealing.
No false witness. No coveting.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
2. It Came Through A Mediator
James 2:23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was
accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.
3. The Law Cannot Make Us Righteous.
Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I
thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of
God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
