The Beautiful Attitudes
Lessons from the Sermon on the Mount

Happy Are the Merciful
Matthew 5:7

v1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then
He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

v3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.

v5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

v7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Mercy is, Not getting what we deserve as sinners before God.

Matthew 23:26-27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. “We are not meant to control our Christianity; our Christianity is meant to control us.”

Mercy Is An Act of Helpfulness

Grace is shown to the undeserving; Mercy is compassion to the miserable.

Mercy Is Compassion In Action

Mercy Is Forgiving

Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us...

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved.

Happy Are the Merciful

2 Samuel 22:26 With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful...

Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning...

Matthew 18:32 Then his master, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

John 3:3 ...“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
